RESTITUTION HOLOCAUST REPARATIONS
Germany estimates there are about 60,000 survivors worldwide who are eligible for a one-time reparations payment of 2000 Euros (over $3000) for having worked in Ghettos in German controlled territory during the Holocaust.

Bet Tzedek Legal Services, with the assistance of the law firm of Manatt, Phelps, & Phillips, has mobilized scores of major law firms and hundreds of volunteer lawyers across the US to provide free legal clinics to local Jewish Family Services and Holocaust Services offices to give survivors legal assistance in properly completing their applications for reparations.

Since January 2008, volunteer lawyers at the Bet Tzedek clinics have filed applications on behalf of over 500 survivors in the Los Angeles area. Germany has already processed over 125 of these applications. ALL have been approved and the survivors have received their one-time payments.

For more information and to obtain free assistance in applying for the one-time payment from Germany, contact your local Jewish Family Service or Holocaust Services agency. For help locating a Holocaust Services agency in your area, contact The Claims Conference at (646) 536-9100, www.claimscon.org, or The Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies at (800) 634- 7346, www.ajfca.org/dir.html.

If you or a member of your family has attended an ORT school, no matter where or when, we would love to hear about your experiences and how ORT has impacted your life. Every former student is very important to us so please contact Annette Holland at our Boca Ration Office 888-802-6088, or email jbmazafl@aol.com or aholland@ortamerica.org.
FYI…   The DNA Shoah Project is building a database of genetic material from Holocaust survivors and their immediate descendants in hopes of reuniting families disrupted by the Shoah (“Holocaust” in Hebrew). The Project aims to match displaced relatives, provide Shoah orphans and lost children with information about their biological families and, eventually, assist in the forensic identification of Holocaust-era remains. FYI…   Searching: For a reunion of Holocaust Survivors in Germany this summer, the "Boys from Kloster Indersdorf" would like to find at least one of the "Girls" who were with them in the "International D.P. Children's Center Kloster Indersdorf" after liberation in 1945.

Here are some of the people who they are hoping to find at the reunion:

FYI…   European Resistance Archive – New Internet Source on Oral History of Anti-Nazi Resistance
This archive (www.resistance-archive.org) features video interviews with protagonists of European anti-nazi resistance from Poland, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Germany and France – with more countries yet to be covered. An interactive map showing the most important locations of resistance and repression represents each country. There are now 20 video interviews– each one around one hour, directly viewable through an integrated web player and featuring selectable subtitles. Interviews may be browsed by key words and are also available as bilingual transcripts, making them quotable sources for scholars.
FYI…   A new web-based initiative to combat the growing wave of hate and terror sites was launched by the Simon Wiesenthal Center. You can make a difference by reporting a terror or hate posting to the Center’s team of Internet experts at ireport@wiesenthal.com who will share the data with the Internet provider and when appropriate, with law enforcement or the authorities.
FYI…   New temporary exhibition at the Shoah Memorial in Paris: Clandestine Immigration of Jews from France to Palestine, ALYAH BETH. This exhibit tells the story of survivors of the Holocaust from all over Europe who, after World War II, tried to reach Eretz Israel from France. It notably underlines the role played by liberated France in this clandestine exodus, as well as its support to the networks of illegal immigration and its role in the birth of the State of Israel. An overview of the exhibition (in French), plus access to some of the archive documents, is at the following link: www.memorialdelashoah.org/upload/minisites/alyah/index.htm and www.memorialdelashoah.org/upload/minisites/alyah/autour1.htm. This includes presentations of new films and books, a conference, a meeting with former passengers of the Exodus, as well as a vast program of films about “the building of the State of Israel in Israeli cinema”.
FYI…   Last Days of The Four Seasons is a portrait of a unique but nearly extinct culture - the last of the Catskill Mountain bungalow colonies created by and for Holocaust survivors. Photographed and recorded at The Four Seasons Lodge in summer 2006 and 2007, this photo, audio and text exhibition balances between the now and then, telling the uplifting stories of people who, even after witnessing the complete destruction of their world, have chosen to reclaim life, love, and a sense of place from the ashes. This exhibit will premiere at The Breman Museum in Atlanta in April 2009. To see more images, an exhibit preview, or to book this exhibit please visit http://lastdaysofthefourseasons.com or contact Rick Nahmias Photography at 818.782.9036.
