History
GSI was formed by leaders of seven established Second Generation groups around the United States. With the debut of its first newsletter in October 2002, Generations of the Shoah International proudly announced its official launch. After months of planning, the founders debuted their vision of a worldwide network of children and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, all linked together with a common goal. The response to GSI was overwhelming.
Mission
GSI is open to all descendants of Survivors - Second, Third, and future generations - as well as any Survivor or Child Survivor. GSI has members throughout the United States, coast-to-coast and Hawaii, and internationally in many countries, reaching every continent. Our monthly newsletter currently reaches thousands of Survivors and their descendants. In those geographical areas where no established Holocaust-related group exists, GSI provides members with a critical link to their second and third generation brothers and sisters around the world.
In addition to individuals and groups, many Holocaust institutions have requested inclusion in our network. These include the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Yad Vashem, Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, AMCHA, The Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust, and Holocaust Centers and Memorials in many states.
GSI encourages and welcomes the active participation of its members on various committees such as Holocaust education, commemoration, speaker's bureau, reparations, healthcare for survivors, and arts and culture.
